Infusion Therapy

SOLIRIS infusion therapy is prescribed to treat adults with anti-aquaporin-4 (APQ4) antibody-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder. SOLIRIS infusion therapy is available at Optimum Care  Infusion Center. 

About SOLIRIS® Infusion Therapy

SOLIRIS infusion therapy is an FDA-approved treatment for adults with one of several autoimmune or rare diseases. SOLIRIS is a prescription IV medication called a monoclonal antibodySOLIRIS infusion therapy works by binding proteins in the blood that can destroy red blood cells. For people with NMOSD, a genetic condition causes the proteins to damage the natural defenses of red blood cells.  

Conditions Treated by SOLIRIS® Infusion Therapy

SOLIRIS infusion therapy is a complement inhibitor used to treat: 

  • Paroxsymal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) 
  • Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) 
  • Adults with Generalized Myasthenia Gravis (gMG) who are anti-aquaporin-4 (APQ4) antibody positive 
  • Adults with Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) who are anti-aquaporin-4 (APQ4) antibody positive 

SOLIRIS® Cost

The out-of-pocket SOLIRIS cost will vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you have questions about your coverage, contact your insurance provider. 

Some patients with commercial insurance may qualify for the Alexion OneSource CoPay Program, a patient support program that helps cover some out-of-pocket SOLIRIS medication costs for eligible patients. For more information, visit AlexionOneSource.com.

What to Expect During SOLIRIS® Infusion Therapy

If your provider prescribes SOLIRIS infusion therapy, you will receive your SOLIRIS treatment by intravenous infusion (IV). Typically, SOLIRIS infusion therapy consists of induction (starting) doses, followed by less-frequent maintenance doses. Optimum Care Infusion Centers will coordinate your SOLIRIS treatment schedule with your referring provider. 

Before starting the medication, it is important to receive meningococcal A and B vaccinations. Optimum Care can coordinate with Alexion to provide these vaccinations in-clinic. 

SOLIRIS Side Effects

Some patients may experience mild SOLIRIS side effects. The most common reactions are upper respiratory infection, pain or swelling of your nose or throat, diarrhea, dizziness, bruising, and flu-like symptoms.
