ILUMYA injection therapy is an FDA-approved brand-name prescription medication for adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. ILUMYA injection therapy is available at Optimum Care Infusion Center.
ILUMYA is a biologic medication for adult patients with the signs and symptoms of uncontrolled moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that causes thick, scaly patches of silver or white-covered plaques.
An ILUMYA injection goes beyond the surface of your skin to target and block the IL-23 molecule. IL-23 is a protein that plays an essential role in autoimmune disease and causes plaque psoriasis to flare. ILUMYA can regulate your immune system and restores your body to a more natural rhythm, helping to reduce the amount of visible plaque on your skin.
The FDA has approved ILUMYA injection therapy to treat plaque psoriasis. The cells of your skin grow more quickly in plaque psoriasis, rising and settling at the surface of your skin. This results in redness and flakes on the skin, commonly known as plaques.
ILUMYA can slow down the rapid growth of skin cells and stop the inflammation that commonly occurs in plaque psoriasis.
The out-of-pocket ILUMYA cost will vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you have questions about your coverage, contact your insurance provider.
Many patients with commercial insurance qualify for the ILUMYA co-pay program, which can help cover the out-of-pocket ILUMYA cost. For more information, visit https://ilumyacopay.com/patient or contact your referring provider for assistance.
No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about your ILUMYA cost or additional financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Optimum Care team.
If your provider prescribes ILUMYA injection therapy, you’ll receive two starter doses four weeks apart, followed by maintenance doses every 12 weeks. You’ll receive your ILUMYA injections under the skin in your thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.
Because ILUMYA may lower your immune system, your healthcare provider should monitor you before and during treatment. If you have a history of tuberculosis (TB) or currently have TB, your physician will want to treat you for TB before beginning therapy with ILUMYA. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you develop signs of infection, are pregnant or breastfeeding, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding, or have been recently vaccinated. Avoid live vaccines while on ILUMYA.
Some patients may experience mild ILUMYA side effects. These include upper respiratory infections, injection site reactions, and diarrhea.
For more information on ILUMYA side effects, visit the manufacturer’s website or consult your referring provider.
