AMVUTTRA

Infusion Therapy

AMVUTTRA injection therapy treats hereditary AATR (hATTR) amyloidosis. This progressive condition can be treated with AMVUTTRA injections at a Optimum Care  Infusion Center.

About AMVUTTRA® Injection Therapy

AMVUTTRA injection therapy is an FDA-approved medication prescribed to treat hereditary AATR (hATTR) amyloidosis. Individuals with hATTR have a mutated gene that causes TTR proteins to form abnormally. AMVUTTRA injections work by targeting the mutated TTR mRNA that carry the code for the genetic mutation.

Normally, TTR proteins transport vitamin A and thyroid hormones through the blood. In individuals with mutated TTR proteins, they collect and form deposits (amyloids) in essential organs and tissues. Regular AMVUTTRA injections can reduce the number of TTR proteins produced and decrease amyloids throughout the body.

AMVUTTRA® Injection for hATTR Amyloidosis

AMVUTTRA injections have been shown to effectively reduce TTR protein starting from the first dose. Studies have shown that AMVUTTRA patients experienced reduced amyloids and improved symptoms, including:

  • Improved nerve function
  • Slowed progression of neuropathy
  • Improved walking speed
  • Better able to perform daily tasks

AMVUTTRA® Cost

The out-of-pocket AMVUTTRA cost will vary depending on your insurance coverage. If you have Medicare Part B or Medicaid, some of the AMVUTTRA cost may be covered. If you have questions about your coverage, contact your insurance provider.

Many patients with commercial insurance qualify for the Alnylam Assist Commercial Copay Program, which can help cover the AMVUTTRA cost. For more information on AMVUTTRA cost and financial resources, you may visit Alnylam Assist.

No patient should go without necessary treatment due to financial limitations. If you have questions about AMVUTTRA cost or financial assistance opportunities, contact a member of our Optimum Care team.

What to Expect During AMVUTTRA® Injection Therapy

If a provider prescribes AMVUTTRA injection therapy, patients will receive an AMVUTTRA injection every 3 months (4 times a year). AMVUTTRA is a subcutaneous injection, meaning it’s injected under the skin. The injection is administered by a healthcare professional and takes only minutes to complete.

Because AMVUTTRA can lower vitamin A levels, you will likely be prescribed a vitamin A supplement to take throughout treatment. Your referring provider will prescribe and manage the proper dose.

AMVUTTRA Side Effects

While uncommon, some patients may experience AMVUTTRA side effects, including pain in the limbs and joints, lowered vitamin A levels, and shortness of breath. In rarer cases, injection site reactions can occur, including redness, itching, and swelling around the injection site.

If you have concerns about AMVUTTRA side effects, contact your referring provider.
